Amiga A3640 CPU Board Repair

by James Jackson

Chapter 9
Conclusion

Once you have cleaned off the board and replaced the capacitors, you are ready to reassemble the computer. The various sections of the computer can be assembled in the reverse order of how it was taken apart. Before you put the cover back on, you may want to power up the computer and verify that the modifications made are good, with the proper voltages and the proper polarities on the capacitors.

I am offering the above information to assist anyone that has had (or may have) their Amiga 4000 die on them. I took a chance when I went poking around my Amiga 4000. But I was desperate. Repair shops for Amiga are few and far between. Also, finding replacement boards is either expensive, or impossible. I have a little more than a basic knowledge of electronics, so I decided to see if I could find something obvious. I was fortunate. Not all problems are this easy.

In conclusion, it's amazing what a twenty-five cent component inserted backwards, c an do to a $2500.00 computer system.

I would like to thank Kent Polk for his suggestions that helped me to focus on the A3640 as the source of the problem.
