Amiga A3640 CPU Board Repair

by James Jackson

Chapter 7
Missing Connection

One of the things that you may have to look for are any missing connections on the board. In my case, I noticed a lack of 5 volts on one of the capacitors. Hopefully, you will not have this problem.

The causes of this are also related to the electrolyte leakage. The electrolyte is very caustic (like battery acid), and will eat through the copper traces. It will most likely attack the weakest part of the board, the vias.

I ran a small wire from the side of the capacitor that lacked the voltage to another capacitor in another area of the board that measured 5 volts.

The best way to spot any problem areas is to closely inspect areas around where the electrolyte has been sitting for any length of time.

I realize that I am being vague here, but each case may be different.

Also, you may not have any problem with connections damaged by electrolyte. One board that I repaired didn't.
