Re-Associating Dimensions in P-CAD ASCII

WARNING!! The following information involves editing the ACCEL ASCII database, which could result in the potential loss of data!

If you have placed dimensions in the design and they are 'disassociated', it is possible to re-associate the dimensions... if you are sure they still reflect the correct dimension.

First, you will need to save your design as an ACCEL ASCII design.

Next, open it with an ASCII text editor.

Finally look for the 'DimensionID' attribute.

Dimension -1 = disassociated

Otherwise it will start with 0 and increment by one for each dimension that has the associated checkbox checked.

So, you will want to change all of the '-1' numbers to a unique ID number.

For example, if 0, 1, 2 and 3 have been used, then start with 4, and continue up from there.

After you have edited your ACCEL ASCII file, changing all of the '-1' ID's to a unique number, save it.

When you reopen it with PCB, all dimensions should be re-associated.

On a side note, it would be real cool if Protel opened up Dimensions, allowing access via DBX. Perhaps adding a TDimension structure. 8-)

James Jackson
