Tip of The Month for ACCEL EDA

June 15, 1998

There is an easy way to both enable a layer and change layers at the same time in ACCEL EDA - PCB.

For example... you are working on a design that has two plane layers (in addition to the top and bottom trace layers). Initially, through the 'Options Layers...' sub-menus, you have set the plane layers off. Later in the design, you decide to modify information on one of the plane layers.

To enable the plane layer and switch to it simultaneously, go to the 'Options Layers...' sub-menu..

You will see the plane layers, and their status displayed in the 'Layers:' window. Since they are disabled, they will have the status of 'PD' next to their name.

To enable the plane layer of choice, and then switch to it as the active design layer, go up and click on the 'Current Layer:' drop-down arrow. From the list of layers displayed, locate the plane layer that you are interested in and select it with the mouse.

What has now happened is that you have set the selected plane layer as the current layer to work on, and you have also enabled it, since you obviously cannot operate on it if it is disabled.

Neat trick, eh?
